History
From post-WWII steel imports to a thriving legacy, our journey is one of relentless growth and family leadership. Ben Friedman, our visionary founder, transformed steel importation into a vessel ownership venture—Seven Seas Shipping—catering to the US market.
Fueling expansion, Ben established Caine Steel, a network that burgeoned to 13 strategic locations, including pivotal hubs in Detroit, Chicago, and Atlanta’s Ellsworth Industrial Boulevard.
Following Ben’s legacy, his sons, Les and Morton, helmed locations, culminating in Morton’s leadership at Great South Metals. In a pivotal move, Morton’s son, Steve, took the reins in 1984, shaping our destiny.
Fast forward to 1991, a pivotal shift to Acworth, GA, marked a milestone. Our current 85,000 sq. ft. space stands as a testament to our evolution, having expanded threefold.
In 2022, a new chapter unfolded as Mainline Metals welcomed Great South Metals into its family. This connection amplifies our outreach, empowering us to offer unparalleled solutions and supply options.
